I’m Cami Frare, an Argentine visual artist based in Miami. I work in acrylic on canvas. I began with realism and animals, painting in oil. That training gave me precision and control. Over time I experimented with formats and techniques until I found my own language: crystal figures.
How I Started: Realism & Animals
My starting point was animals. My teacher specialized in realistic animal painting, so I focused on portraying them—beginning with my dog, who had recently passed away; I gifted that piece to myself. That period taught me how to truly look, to work in layers, and to understand that perfection doesn’t exist.
How I Paint Today: Contrast, Transparency & Reflections
In my current work I explore crystal figures through transparent planes with hard edges, sharp contrasts that cut through the form, and precise highlights to create reflections. I choose feminine figures to embody the emotions I want to express.
The goal isn’t the crystal effect for its own sake—it’s to show the tension between fragility and strength in the same moment: to recognize you can’t have one without the other, and you can be both at once.
What I Want to Say
I seek healing through art. Finding my language took time and it’s still a work in progress: as I change, my work changes. I paint moments, sensations, and emotions from key stages of my life. I want you to connect from your own reading. I’m interested in work that accompanies you and reminds you you’re not alone in what you’re going through.
Crystal: Transparency & Tension
Crystal is my new series based on crystal figures that explore the contrast between fragility and strength.
It will be presented at Miami Art Week (December 3–7, 2025).
